Mai Tai with Blood Orange and Coconut Rum
Monday March 01st, 2010 in Wine & Spirits
How can you feel like you’ve spent three hours in the tropics without leaving the house? Why, throw an indoor beach party of course! Come check out my guest post at The Daring Kitchen for more recipes, crazy party ideas, and music that will kick the winter blues far away.
P.S. – The post may or may not contain a gratuitous Tom Cruise music video…
Mai Tai with Blood Orange and Coconut Rum (Printable Recipe)
Serves 1 – This makes a stiff drink. Cut it in half if so desired!
Ingredients:
1 oz Dark Rum
1 oz Silver Rum
1 oz Coconut Rum (I used Bacardi Coco)
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/4 oz Amaretto
1/2 blood orange, juiced
1/2 lime, juiced
Directions:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all ingredients above and gently shake to combine. Strain into a glass filled with ice and garnish with slices of blood orange and lime.

Beautiful and refreshing looking drink. I think I got tan lines just looking at it.

Damn! Is it wrong to want one of these suckers at 7am? This makes me want to crank the heat up to 85 and shake on some sandals!

I would very much like a stiff drink. Unfortunately, no stiff drinks are in my near future. Unless I want an inebriated newborn. I'll just have to lust over yours.

This recipe makes me not want to be Mormon. You are a religion killer.

Except I feel the need to correct the commenters on your post over at the Daring Kitchen. Flip flops is what southern people call them; thongs are what Yankees call them. Yankee being anyone north of the Red River. In general.
Thong = underwear that gives a hiney wedgie.
Flip Flop = shoe that gives a toe wedgie.

Can't go wrong when the first three ingredients are Rum, Rum and Rum. This one is on the menu for my first summery gathering!

Wow. Just read your whole guest post. It was FOOD FOR MY SOUL. Listening to that song while I read your rundown for the party and drooled over your pictures? Holy cow, it was so transporting that it feels like I went to that party myself for a few minutes. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm still tasting the pineapple and jicama.

LeaAnn- Thank you! I wish it gave tan lines too!
Dana- Nothing wrong with that. It's 5 somewhere!
Mary- Thank you.
Kristin- At least the newborn is sporting a tan! I'm sure you'll be getting a much deserved stiff drink by summer.
Allie- Giggle. I've never lived south of the Mason Dixie line but to me thongs are not something to be worn on your feet!
Bryan- True, triple rum is hard to beat!
Ann- Oh I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! Everyone needs a summer break this time of year!
Sarah- Sounds like a party! Let me know how you like it. =)

I clicked to read your article and was excited to see a picture of Torrey Pines State Beach! That's right down the road from me
By the way, we are going to make and enjoy that delicious drink tonight while we watch our school rivals play basketball!

I'm in love with this drink! If I were still bartending I'd put it on the drink menu right away! Thank god I'm not, though, so all I have to do is make one and drink it!
