Photo of the Week – Summer Storm Clouds
Tuesday August 24th, 2010 in Photography
Mr. B and I witnessed these unusual storm clouds driving north from Omaha, Nebraska earlier this summer. They were unlike any I’ve seen before. Crazy shapes and colors filled the horizon for miles. (Click on a picture for a larger image.)

Miss D. just said that she thinks those clouds are the coolest things ever. I’m in agreement!

You found yourself some mammatus clouds! They aren’t seen often, so that is so awesome that you got to take some pictures. And those are great pics, too!

Fabulous! I love clouds. Out here in the Bay Area, I don’t think we get enough. Only fog, which just isn’t the same.

Dana- They’re pretty neat!
I love San Fran.
Nicole- Ah ha! Thank you for identifying them. Mr. B had never seen clouds like these in his 30+ years in the Midwest. We thought they must be fairly rare.
Bryan- Thank you!
Cathy- Yes you do get a lot of fog, but considering that you also get all that gorgeous produce I don’t feel too sorry for you!

Mammatus clouds are often associated with violent weather….as in tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. In my meteorology class we were told to seek cover when we saw them! Great photos. There are lots of good photos and information online if you do a search for them.

Gainor- That doesn’t surprise me! This summer has been filled with violent weather. I am slowly developing a thick skin but it will take a while before I develop the “keep calm and carry on” mentality of Mr. B! It keeps life exciting!

Wow, it’s awe inspiring and kinda creepy at the same time, but you captured great photos of nature. Glad the potentially violent weather they say these are an indicator of didn’t come your way while you were out driving.

Fran- I’m glad it didn’t come our way either! We did run into a very green sky and bad storms about a week later…but that is another story =).
RSA- I do see the resemblance!
Suzanne- Thank you!

I used to be scared of storms when I was a kid. Somehow I grew out of that fear and I actually enjoy them now. These are some truly awesome pictures!
