Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July! We are celebrating by throwing a big block party for the National Guard troops who have patrolled our levees and helped us battle the flood waters for the past month. There will be fireworks too large to be legal in most states and lots of grilled meat- a true South Dakota party. We wish you all a day filled with hot sun, cold beer, and good friends.

I have a soft spot in my heart for little girls who are late bloomers, follicley speaking. My Kate was bald until after age two. I have a photo of her at about Anna’s age dressed up for the 4th and it’s one of my all-time favorites. In spite of your hardship, you are so blessed. So glad to hear life goes on for you and the levees are still holding. PS: Used the last of my lard this week to make the best cherry pie ever. Will always credit you for my mad pastry skillz.
