I promise that the ‘photo of the week’ section will not turn into a ‘baby photo of the week’ however you’ll have to indulge me in a few more weeks of baby photos. This housebound mama isn’t getting out much right now so baby photos are filling the camera fast!

Introducing the newest member of the Phoo-d family: Baby Anna (pronounced Ah-na). Born on March 2, 2011, weighing 8 lbs 10 oz, she is 19 1/2 inches long.

Over the last few days a big storm dropped about 12″ of fresh snow onto the ground. The temperatures are in the single digits and any time the wind kicks up a swirl of blowing snow fills the air. True to his German heritage, Oscar doesn’t mind the snow at all. He just wants to know if someone will bring him a bratwurst while he’s out there!

First a frog invasion and now a colony of muskrats- you never know what you are going to find when driving the back roads of South Dakota! This photo was taken earlier in the fall (all the water is now frozen solid) when we stumbled across a flooded corn field that was filled with tiny little muskrat dens. We counted over a dozen of the furry rodents swimming, sitting in the sun, and busily chewing away on twigs and corn stalks. Can you spot the two in this photograph?

It is official- December is here along with the first snow of the season. Time for hot chocolate, cold noses, and fuzzy boots!

Every year Halloween marks a change in the weather. The warm Indian summer days of fall give way to cold northern winds and the feeling that winter is fast approaching. A few stalwart leaves desperately cling to bare branches reluctant to join the colorful carpet of fallen leaves below. Rain flirts with snow- dancing back and forth between wet and white. I have the sudden urge to make mulled apple cider and sit by the fire. November is here.

That’s right, we are going to have a girl! I’m about five and a half months along and we just found out that the little one kicking my ribs and making my belly look like a watermelon is going to be of the female persuasion. I’m thrilled and Mr. B is excited with a tiny bit of trepidation (he’s from a family of all boys). The pink purchases have commenced and her grandfather is already hoping that she will quickly learn how to bake his favorite cookies.

This past weekend Mr. B and I found ourselves in Chicago for a quick business trip. One morning I decided to walk Michigan avenue and try my hand at a bit of street photography. Photographing still life, landscapes, and animals is one thing. Pointing a camera at complete strangers? That is a completely different ball game! I was glad that I braved the strange looks and uncomfortable feelings and left with a whole new respect for those who make street photography a full time profession. Have you jumped outside of your comfort zone lately? How did it turn out?

Despite my day dreaming of aspens, fall in South Dakota holds its own unique beauty. Native bluestem grasses turn a fiery red and the colors of the prairie change from lush greens to the warm palette of autumn. Sunny days and crisp nights make this one of my favorite seasons.

This time of year I day dream of hiking through the aspen forests in Colorado. We were lucky enough to hit the fall color a year ago and I’ve wanted to go back ever since!
